A couple weeks ago I traveled to Port City Brewing in Alexandria. I was there for a benefit being hosted by Port City and Old Blue BBQ. The benefit was to help raise money and awareness for Manjia.org. Manjia as described by their website "This website was born out of our disappointment over the amount of food waste created each year that goes unrecovered. We know there are people in desperate need of food donations and that there are also a lot of people with a surplus of food. We believe that by providing a simple way for people from those two groups to be connected it will significantly reduce the amount of food wasted." This is a great cause as there is so much food that is wasted everyday.
Old Blue had a great spread for this event: brisket, ribs, pulled chicken and some amazing sides of brussel sprouts, mac and cheese and peach bourbon baked beans. Port City also had 3 beers on tap.
The food and beer were fantastic. My wife said it was best brisket she's ever had, which kind of hurts because I make brisket too. Also on hand was a great bluegrass band Split String Soup.
If you have the opportunity to go to an event catered by Old Blue BBQ please go support them and their causes. Also be sure to visit Port City Brewing for some of the best beers in Virginia.
It's beer festival season. If you see me out and about make sure to come up and say hi. Be sure to also drink up and eat well!
